Buenas tardes a todos,

Well, here we are at the last week before marks close and we still have so much to do. We are not done yet! Our family projects were due today June 3, and some of you did not pass it in for whatever reason. Even though you had almost 2 weeks to do it and 2 weekends, you still need to do it because it is minus one letter grade for everyday that it is late. I stayed yesterday and I am staying today and Thursday so that I can help you practice and catch up with test or quiz corrections on other papers. I am not taking anything next week because I have posters and essays to correct first. Come this week if you need to do something.

So far today, the presentations have been very good and we can see how much you need to practice in order to present. We are also continuing our packet work for homework this week and when we finish the projects we will go over it quickly. Tomorrow is a half day, so we will concentrate on doing more projects. I would like to finish them this week if at all possible.

There will be a fiesta coming up for the whole eighth grade whether you take Spanish or not. I will be sending home a form for food and permission on this Thursday the 5th  to give you time to sign up for something. Lundh for 8th grade will be last lunch next Thursday the 12th so you don't need a lunch that day. The fiesta is usually very good if everyone brings in food.

Tarea por esta semana es:

lunes noche: proyecto de la familia
martes noche: paquete paginas 46 y 58
miércoles noche: 57 y60
jueves noche: claendarios de junio, julio, agosto - junio 8 fotografias  del verano.

Buenas tardes a todos,

I'm back again with more information on what's been going on in class the last few weeks in between MCAS schedules, which are like half day schedules after the tests, regular half days, and the Memorial Day holiday. We started chapter 5 about the country of Chile with its people, culture, and geography. We have also been working on possessive adjectives, family members, adjectives for family members, family tree organization, new stem changing verbs and notes about cinco de mayo and why it is celebrated.

In the next few days, we will be learning about house vocabulary, chores in a house that family members do, more places to go and directions to places. Our next big project as I mentioned yesterday is the family tree project with a poster, presentation and 5 paragraph essay  with each piece counting as a test grade. We will be going over the rubric again tomorrow in more detail and start the  essay in class also. Everything is due next Tuesday June 3 and you need to be prepared to present your project.I am staying after tomorrow Thursday, May 29 and next Monday June 2 for project questions. Any other work that needs to made up needs to be in by next week by Friday June 6th. I am not accepting anything after that date.

 Tarea por esta semana:

miércoles noche:  paquete nuevo paginas 49 #19 y 56 # 16 y17. Yo necesito sus árboles de la familia (rough draft) y el rubric mañana.

¡Buenos días a todos!

Sorry I have not been on in a while as I have been having trouble logging into my blogsite. Hopefully, I have it all figured out and can continue for the rest of the year.

My biggest item that about which I want to inform  you and your parents is the 3 part  family project that is due June 3, 2014. You will be making a family poster in Spanish with Spanish family labels, presenting 3 people from your poster in front of the class, and writing about 5 people on your poster in Spanish. It is worth 3 test grades. We will be working on the essay this week in class for one day and one day only. Cut outs of people are available now. You all should have the rubric with the instructions and expectations on it.

Homework tonight is:

New packet (paquete nuevo) paginas 45 y 55 using the notes from classwork today and your book pages 170, 171, 172, and 173 if you did not finish the classwork.

More updates mañana. Señora

Buenas noches a todos,

We are still learning new concepts and vocabulary this week and will be finishing up chapter 4  before we go to Washington D.C.  We will be revisiting "er" and "ir" verbs,  adding on new verbs to our lists, continuing our invitations and responses, working the verb "to go" as a future tense, doing some more listening activities, practicing our new verbs, and having a quiz on this material at the end of the week. There will be a chapter 4 test next week, probably Thursday, that will include all of the above plus classes, school supplies, all the verbs, the verbs "venir" and "tener" plus all the tener expressions, review of time, and adverbs of time.

We now have finished picking our new Spain map partners, changed seats and groups, and will continue to practice our new vocabulary. We will be doing more partner and group activities to finish off the week before the quiz. We are also finishing and continuing to pass back more papers and classwork that we started before the third term started. We all need to be focused, work diligently for the rest of the term, and complete all the classwork and homework in order to have a successful third trimester. There might be some extra emails going home to encourage more timely homework!

¡Buenos dias a todos!

¡Bienvenidos a la primavera! Welcome to spring! It's not quite here yet, but hopefully it's on it's way. This week will be a bit mixed up as we have a half day Wednesday and  MCAS on Thursday and Friday, grades closing and being finished and report cards on Friday. We started the week with a Soduko puzzle in Spanish using vocabulary instead of numbers. There were some students who were not familiar with this type of puzzle so it was a bit challenging. Working with a partner helped immensely.

We will also be adding to our adverb vocabulary, verb vocabulary, and school supply vocabulary. We are going to start a unit on invitations and how to invite friends and family to various activities that we have learned. We will also learn how to accept and refuse politely to invitations. We will also be learning the immediate future with the verb "IR", which is to go and do some communicative activities with a partner. Hopefully, we will rearrange the room and get new seats and new groups and set our selves up with a new partner map. We will also have listening activity in there too. No quizzes this week!

Tarea por esta semana:

lunes noche: pagina 36 ejercicio 15, pagina 43 # 15 y 16.
martes noche: pagina 37 ejercicio 17, pagina 40 # 22.
miércoles noche: pagina 35 ejercicio 12, pagina 44 # 17 y 18.
jueves noche: pagina 39 # 19 y 20, pagina 45 # 20.

The goal is to finish chapter 4 before we go to Washington DC. That means we have 2 1/2 weeks to study and finish up. The third trimester flies by fast so we still need to work hard and move along. Don't get left behind! Another quiz next week and the test the week after.

This week I am staying Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday each day until 3:00 pm. There is no late bus this week, so you must find your own way home. ¡Buena suerte! Good luck.

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

¡Buenos dias estudiantes y padres!

We are now in full swing with Chapter 4 with classes, school supplies, expressions with the verb "to have" such as to have hunger, thirst, to have to do something, to feel like doing something, to be in a hurry, to have an appointment, to be years old, and to be sleepy. We are finishing up notes on Costa Rica, writing many sentences using all of our expressions, and asking and responding to various questions. We continue to do listening activities, homework, and quizzes. We are also using the verb "venir" to come and will be brainstorming various places to come or to go in Spanish. Our calendar this month is about places to go.

Tarea por esta semana es:

lunes noche: calendario de lugares - 8 places in Spanish
martes noche: pagina 60 dos paginas - separate from the packet. Study to have expressions and to come for the quiz tomorrow.
miércoles noche: old packet - pagina 34.
jueves noche: paquete nuevo: paginas 36 #15, 40 #21, 41 # 14.
viernes noche: nada

Buenas noches a todos,

Welcome back from vacation! Hope all of you had a great vacation and are now ready to get back to work, especially in Spanish! Before vacation we were working on finishing up Chapter 3 with new verbs and conjugations, Texas notes, some adverbs of time, new vocabulary, and weather. When we had the snow day and the delay, it put us a bit behind, so we will be wrapping it up this week. We will also be starting chapter 4 about school supplies, courses, more irregular verbs, more vocabulary, more adverbs of time, and more special expressions.

I passed back the Chapter 3 test today and some students should come back to  finish it or do test corrections within the next week. I will be staying after Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 3:00 pm each day of this week. I strongly suggest that if you are having trouble or need extra help, please come and see me. Studying each day will help too.

Tarea por esta semana:

lunes noche: papel de "IR" paginas 35 y 45.
martes, miércoles, y jueves noches: paquete nuevo

I will update you tomorrow on the rest of the week when I get a chance to finish running them off and deciding which exercises you need to do.

Gracias, Señora

Buenos dias a todos,

Here we are on the last week before February vacation. This year is flying by fast! We will also have a busy week tying up loose ends from chapter 3 and finishing up our worksheets for the chapter. We will be finishing our battleship and connect 4 games with "AR" verbs, finishing our sentence sheet, finishing our listening activities for the chapter, competing the cultural notes on Texas, practicing more adverbs and verb conjugations with a whole class activity,  collecting the packets,  doing our February calendar and birthdays, writing and talking about a photo sheet, reading the chapter dialog about La Profesora, Marcos, Sofia, y Nicolas, watching the video and playing Valentine's bingo in Spanish. We will still have homework, but no quizzes. I am hoping to pass back the chapter tests by the end of this week and some other papers too. The students received their oral presentations with the drawings of themselves. Overall, they were good, so I am planning to put the drawings up in the hallway.

We will be starting the next chapter, chapter 4 when we get back from vacation. The students are doing well in general, but still need to study to keep up. I am staying Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week until 3:00pm. Please take advantage of the extra help, especially after passing back some quizzes from yesterday. Hope to see you!

Buenas noches a todos,

Well, we are going to have another busy week this week as we finish up chapter 3 and working with "AR" verbs, adverbs of time,  the verb to go = IR and the verb to play =JUGAR. We are also finishing  up our oral presentations about our autobiographies, weather notes, Texas notes, listening activities, and   forming sentences and questions using our new verbs and vocabulary. We will also be playing some verb games such as connect four, battleship, and group verbs. We will be having a quiz tomorrow on the verb "IR", "JUGAR" and how to conjugate "AR"verbs, the weather and  the vocabulary in the chapter. These will also be included on the  chapter 3 test on Friday February 7th.

Last week, we had a quiz on how to conjugate "AR" verbs and what they mean. This week's quiz which is tomorrow will be on the same thing and "IR", "JUGAR", the adverbs of time and how to put everything in a sentence. The test will be on all of this plus Texas cultural notes, weather, the word "a" and how it changes to al, a la, a los and a las with "IR" and "JUGAR".

I am staying after today and tomorrow this week but that is all because Wednesday is a half day and Thursday I need to go to the doctor after school. Friday is not good either. Hopefully, next week will be a better week to stay.

Some of you are having trouble keeping up with the new vocabulary and verb conjugations. You all need to review and study to make sure you know what you are doing. It is getting harder, but I know you all can do it if you put in a bit more effort. Hopefully, the oral presentations that count as a test grade and the drawings that count as a quiz grade will bring your grade up and not down.

Tarea por esta semana:

lunes noche: el papel de vocabulario y frases 23 a 27 en español. ¡Estudien!
martes noche: 5 mas frases - 28 a 32. ¡Estudien para el examencito mañana!

¡Buenos dias a todos!

This will be a busy week as we are starting to present our autobiography projects to the class in Spanish. The drawings look fantastic and colorful. Everything that you put on there should remind you about what to say. Remember, the only words on the drawing are your Spanish name and the capital and country. You will also need to draw 2 likes and 2 dislikes, your phone number or email, the flag, and yourself of course. You will also need to describe yourself with four adjectives and tell us why you do like and don't like at least one item each. This counts as a test grade, so you need to practice. We will be presenting all week and perhaps into next week depending on how fast it goes. Good luck!

We will also have a quiz on conjugating "AR" verbs on Wednesday (tomorrow) and what they mean. We will also be doing a lot of review with verbs games, desk verbs, and connector 4. Partners and groups are a must.  We will probably have a chapter 3 test at the end of next week and a quiz at the beginning of the week, so be prepared and study all week!

Tarea por esta semana:

lunes noche: "IR" sheet, and paquete pagina 25, ejercicio 14.
martes noche: pagina 58 en el paquete. There is an essay here that I will collect! ¡Estudien!
miércoles noche: New sentence sheet- numeros 1-11 en español
jueves noche: 12-22 en la pagina nueva
viernes noche: nada o estudien.

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

¡Buenos dias a todos!

Hope you all had a nice long weekend and are ready to get back to work. This week we will be focusing on how to conjugate and use "AR" verbs in Spanish. Hopefully, we already know what they mean, we just need to learn how to use them in sentences with our adverbs of time, places, times of day, with whom, and with what kind of weather. We will also be playing a few verb games for review, finishing our cultural notes, reviewing our newer verbs and starting a project that will include a drawing of yourself with pictures of 2 each of your likes and dislikes, a made up age, a random Hispanic country and capital, that country's flag, and all of that will be in color. This picture will be used for an oral presentation in front of the class. The rubric on how I am going to grade the oral presentation for a test grade (40%) is on the back of the directions for the project. There will also be a grade for the picture (30%), and the audience participation form (20%). This is a culminating project of many of the things that we have learned so far, so you need to practice for your oral presentation. We will be going over this in class this week and the expectations that I have for you. We will be starting to present these on Monday, January 27.

Last week we started conjugating "AR" verbs and had much success with that. We also learned new expressions, practiced more weather, and learned about some more irregular verbs such as "ir", "tener", and "jugar". We had some cultural notes also.

This week might be a mixed up week because of the snow and I might be out again to take my mother to the hospital for her back surgery/procedure. I will keep you all posted. It is a short week also. We will all do the best we can!

Tarea por esta semana:
martes noche: paquete: Paginas 20 y 35. Todas las paginas.
miércoles noche: paquete: Todas las paginas 24 y 33.
jueves noche: paquete: Todas las paginas 26 y 27.
viernes noche: el proyecto: Ustedes necesitan practicar para tu presentación oral por el lunes 27/1.

Buenos dias a todos,

There has been a change in the homework for Thursday 1-16 tonight's homework. Please do page 25 exercises 12 and 13 and page 34 exercises  26 and 27. Do not do page 27 at all. We have not covered all the material and I don't want you to do them incorrectly because you don't have all the information.  Do page 34 first. It has everything you need to do a good job!

Also, there will be a project coming up next week that I hope you will enjoy. More details to follow.....

Buenas noches a todos,

Too late tonight to be writing, but here goes. We have another busy week changing partners using the Mexican states, learning how to conjugate the verb "to go", learning and using adverbs of time and frequency, learning about more cultural notes, and conjugating the verbs to have, to play a sport, and regular "ar" verbs. We will be learning about more questions and expressions and practicing them in class. There are no quizzes this week but there will be one next week.

With the half day on Wednesday, things will be a little crunched for time, however, we still should be able to finish our classwork and homework. Things are going to get more difficult this term with a lot of new vocabulary, verb conjugations, and new expressions. Flashcards and continual review at home will help you study!

Just wanted to let you know that my mother has been very sick with spinal bone fractures, so staying after school will become more difficult for me at times. I stayed after yesterday and today, nothing on the 1/2 day, and possibly Thursday barring any last minute doctor's appointments. Thank you for your understanding. I will still announce when I can stay.

Tarea por esta semana:

lunes noche: paquete -pagina 31 ej 19 y 20, pagina 32 ej 21, 22, y 23.

This week we will be doing our January calendar with instruments, learning about King's Day and more Texas/Hispanic culture, focusing on memorizing our new verbs and their definitions, working in groups and partners with our vocabulary, starting a new packet, doing some listening activities and brainstorming places that we can go from vocabulary we already know. Hopefully we will start learning more adverbs of time to enhance our sentences. We will also have a vocabulary quiz on the verbs on Wednesday and another quiz on Friday with writing sentences, matching and multiple choice on the verbs, gustar with and without an extra verb, the nouns, and how to use querer in sentences and how to conjugate it. .
