¡Hola Clase!
We are coming up on the last week before the holiday break and we are wrapping up a few items plus learning about holiday traditions in various Hispanic countries. We will also be making Mexican tin ornaments, finishing presentations from last week, playing "ponga" for a vocabulary review, and having a quick quiz on that vocabulary from pages 82 and 83 in the book on Wednesday. We might also read a traditional holiday poem in Spanish and English and listen to some music as we make our ornamentos.
This week will be a lighter homework week:
lunes noche: pagina 23 en el paquete.
martes noche: pagina 18 and the vocabulary sheet that I will pass out in class. Study for quiz tomorrow. The quiz is on the verbs that we have learned so far the nouns that go with them. No sentences, just fill in the blanks.
miércoles noche: If you have any sharpies, bring them in tomorrow for our ornaments.
jueves noche: nada
viernes noche : nada
I want to wish all my students and their families and happy and safe vacation and Happy Holidays no matter what your traditions are! ¡Feliz Navidad! from Señora Schneider

¡Buenas tardes a todos!
This week, we are starting Chapter 3 and will really be ramping up what we learn. We are now starting to learn about the different types of verbs in Spanish such as "AR", "ER", and "IR". We started a verb list, will be composing a list of nouns that go with the new verbs, using pictures to help us with the action words, learning how to use "con" = with, learning about the verb to want = "querer", working with partners while using the pictures, playing a few words games and finishing our presentations from last week, and probably having a short quiz on Friday on the new verbs and nouns.
Flashcards might be helpful for the verbs and the nouns that go with them. Studying the expressions will be helpful when we have our class activities. This chapter will separate the men/the women from the boys/the girls. If you have not been studying much, it will catch up with you now.
Tarea por la semana:

Buenas tardes a todos,
This week, we are finishing up Chapter 2 about our likes, dislikes, and how to describe them. We are also doing our oral presentations in front of the class with our pictures that we drew of ourselves. The students need to have their face, their name, their made up age, their capital and country, 4 adjectives describing themselves, 2 likes and 2 dislikes and tell us why they like and dislike their items. They also need their telephone number or their email address. We will be doing a few presentations everyday while the audience takes notes. This is a culminating activity of almost everything that we have learned so far so it will count as a test grade, the picture is a quiz grade, and the notes are a classwork grade. We started the presentations last week and they will be going until next week.
We are also having a test this week on Chapter 2 on the same things as mentioned above. We have been reviewing in class with partners and doing classwork together, plus having homework that reflects the review. Most of us should be in good shape. It will help if you look over the noun vocabulary, the adjectives, the cultural notes on Puerto Rico, gustar, "de" the subject pronouns, the question words, how to use por qué vs. porque, "no" and how to conjugate "ser".
Tarea por la semana del 3 de diciembre:
lunes noche: finish vocab sheet both halves, finish pronoun sheet and question sheet that I passed out.
martes noche: finish the story paper that we started in class -need 10 sentences min. Will be graded. Study!
miércoles noche: calendario de diciembre- 8 holiday/winter items in color and labeled in Spanish
jueves noche: In the book -pages 82 and 83. Put new verbs in notebook. "AR" verbs on "ar page, "ER" verbs on er page, "IR verbs on ir page.
viernes noche: nada
Please study for the test on Chapter 2. Use flashcards if you are shaky on the vocabulary. Keep practicing for your presentation if you have not already done it!

¡Buenas noches a todos!
Well, we have had an exciting past few days with Huracan Sandy, no power, and in some cases, no water. Thank goodness things are trying to get back to normal. Last week, we started learning about adjectives, ages, and cultural notes about Puerto Rico. We still need to work with the new adjective vocabulary and will be having oral presentations using pictures that you have drawn of yourselves. After having a half day last week, attending a yearly foreign language conference last Friday, having 2 no school days this week, and another early release day next Tuesday on election day, we are having trouble getting into a consistent routine for optimal learning, but we will get there. We just need some patience and a bit more studying.
This week, we will learning about the Mexican and Latin American holiday Los Dias de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead. Celebrated at the same time as Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day, we will be learning how this holiday is similar to Halloween and what the major differences are also. It is a family oriented celebration of ancestors and loved ones that have passed away. On Friday, we will be bringing in one picture of a deceased loved one or pet along with a article that represents that person's interests and likes, presenting them to the class, and putting them into our classroom "ofrenda" or altar. It is a very interesting project that everyone seems to enjoy. We will be continuing presentations into next week, however the items are due this Friday. Presentations will be in English, although there might be a few questions that I will ask in Spanish that we all should know how to answer.
Tarea por ésta semana: ( homework for this week):
miércoles noche: calendarios de noviembre - 8 cosas de los dias de los muertos, en color y en español. You have a list of items that you can use for your 8 pictures after listening to our classroom discussion.
jueves noche: bring in a picture of a deceased relative or pet and be prepared to talk about that person's or animal's favorite activities, favorite foods, age, personality, and any other interesting facts that you can share with the class. This is not a written project, but you will be graded on your presentation.
I am still available for extra help and make up work (classwork, homework, and finishing quizzes and tests) tomorrow and next week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Test corrections and retakes are going on now for the major test we just got back today. My policy is any quiz or test under a 70% can be corrected up to 4 per trimester. Make sure you come to see me because the trimester ends the week of Thanksgiving which is el 22 de noviembre.

Buenos dias a todos,
I hope you are having a good week! We are still pretty much on track for classroom activities. The only thing that I am changing is the quiz on Friday. We will be having that next Wednesday as Monday is Columbus day with no school. It will be on the new expressions such as "Where are you from?" "What's your telephone number?", "What's your email?", and "What time is it?". We will also have some of the old expressions which we are still practicing in class. You should also be trying to remember the capitals and the hispanic countries. There are 21 of them. In the meantime, we will be continually reviewing the expressions with classroom activities and partner work. Please come prepared to class to work!
Updated homework for Thursday night:
jueves noche: new packet (paquete nuevo) paginas 5a y 6a- completen las dos paginas (complete both)
viernes noche: nada, pero hay un examen el miércoles proximo - ¡estudien! Study for Wed quiz!

Buenas noches a todos,
After having a numbers quiz last Friday, we will now have an expressions quiz on Tuesday. We have been practicing these basic greetings, goodbyes, nice to meet you, how are you and the responses and other little expressions that will be on a matching quiz. Everyone has a typed review sheet that we reviewed in class today. Tonight's homework will also help review. We will also be having our first chapter quiz on Friday of this week on the same expressions plus "where are you from?" and the responses.
We will be brainstorming Spanish capitals and countries and using them in our conversations this week with the other expressions that we know. We will be learning more facts about Spain, do some listening activities, some partner activities, and learn how to recognize subject and verbs in our sentences.
Now that the cold and flu season is here and many students have been out for a few days already, it is very important that you all look at the blog to try to keep up with the homework and see what we are doing in class so that you can keep current and not get too far behind. We almost always take a few notes each day in class, so you should check with a friend in your class to get the notes. I usually stay after school 2 or 3 times a week so that students can make up work or come for extra help. You may also come before homeroom to make up something that only takes a few minutes to do. There is no reason why anyone should fall behind in my class.
Homework for the week of 9/24/12
lunes noche: paquete- pagina 1a #'s 1 and 3, pagina 2a # 5.
martes noche: no tarea Yom Kippur
miércoles noche: no tarea Yom Kippur
jueves noche: new packet - paginas 3, 5, 6 -subject to change- update by Wednesday. study for quiz
viernes noche: nada
¡Hasta mañana! Señora Schneider

Buenos dias a todos,
This week we have some outside school activities going on which is affecting our Spanish and school schedule. This week we have a half day on Tuesday, a magazine drive on Tuesday, Reading testing on Tuesday, plus no homework on Monday and Tuesday nights because of the Jewish holiday observations. So, therefore, we will not have any classes on Tuesday. However, our schedule gets back to normal on Wednesday and so begins the homework and back to a normal routine.
This week we will be reviewing numbers, expressions, greetings and goodbyes, plus learning how are you and the responses, choosing buddy clock partners, writing dialogs and performing dialogs. We started learning facts about Spain and will continue to do so for the next week. We will also be having a short quiz this week on the numbers. Last week we made calendars in Spanish and practiced the numbers and days of the week and this week we have been practicing the alphabet and numbers with our "placas" or license plates. We should be ready for Friday's number quiz to 100.
Homework for this week:
Wednesday night (miércoles noche): Packet- page 1v exercise #3, page 2v exercises 4,5,6 (whole page)
Thursday night (jueves noche): packet- page 1a exercise #2, page 2a ex# 4, page 3v ex# 7.
